A study was conducted on unorganized and organized sheep farms in Punjab state, India by faecal egg count reduction test (FECRT) to access the existence of anthelmintic resistance against commonly used anthelmintics ivermectin, levamisole hydrochloride, morantel citrate and fenbendazole. At unorganized farms the FECR% for ivermectin, levamisole hydrochloride, morantel citrate and fenbendazole were found to be 99.08%, 98.17%, 95.41% and 66.28% respectively whereas for organized farms the FECRc/o was found to be 93.53%, 90.65%, 80.58% and 84.17% respectively. Further, at unorganized farms, lower conf idence limits for ivermectin, levamisole hydrochloride, morantel citrate and fenbendazole were 96%, 94%, 89% and 38% whereas at organized farm its values were 85%, 84% 60% and 66% respectively. At unorganized farms the efficacy for ivermectin, levamisole hydrochloride, morantel citrate and fenbendazole were found to be 98.94%, 98.43%, 94.71% and 71.29% respectively whereas for organized farms the efficacy was found to be 93.92%, 90.23%, 80.00% and 84.06% respectively. Based on FECR°/o and lower confidence limit values, the existence of resistance or suspected resistance can be attributed to previous exposure of drug, drug management practices and feeding methods.
