dc.description.abstractThe research entitled “Development and evaluation of capsule based entomopathogenic fungal formulations” was carried out at Department of Entomology, College of Horticulture Bagalkot, UHS, Bagalkot during 2018-19. The principal objectives of study were, 1. Development and evaluation of capsule based formulations of Metarhizium rileyi and Lecanicillium lecanii against S. litura and M. persicae, respectively under laboratory condition 2. To study the virulence of selected formulations of M. rileyi and L. lecanii at different storage conditions and storage periods 3. Evaluation of selected formulations of M. rileyi and L. lecanii against S. litura and M. persicae under pot experimentation, respectively. Among the different capsule formulations (gelatine and sodium alginate) developed, the gelatine capsules were proved better than sodium alginate capsule formulations under both laboratory and pot culture experiment. The gelatine capsules containing different combinations (1:1, 1:2 and 1:3 ratio) of spore and talc powder were tested, the equal quantity of spore and talc powder showed better results than other two combinations. The gelatine capsules containing the spore powder alone proved better in bringing the higher mortality of tested insects only at early use of capsules after their development and the efficacy was decreased drastically after 30 days after storage period. The virulence of selected capsule formulations of M. rileyi (gelatine and sodium alginate capsules) and L. lecanii (gelatine capsules) were highest in the gelatine capsules containing equal quantity of spore and talc powder formulation at different storage condition and storage period. Among the different storage condition the refrigerated condition was proved better in maintaining the virulence of the spore followed by mud pot filled with wet sand and room temperature after four months of storage period. The efficacy of selected formulation (gelatine and sodium alginate capsules) of M. rileyi and L. lecanii (gelatine capsule) was studied under pot culture experiment. Wherein, significantly higher mortality of S. litura and lower number of M. persicae was noticed in gelatine capsules formulations as compared to commercial formulations of M. rileyi and L. lecanii. However, among the different treatments chlorantraniliprole showed significantly higher mortality of S. litura and minimum number of M. persicae followed by NSKE 5% treatment.en_US
