Groundnut (Arachis hypogaea) is one of the most important oilseed crops in India. The groundnut crop plays significant role in the edible oilseed economy of India. Besides, being a source of good quality cooking oil, the seeds of groundnut also provide expeller and extraction-cakes which are very rich in protein and used extensively as animal feed supplement. In India, though groundnut is cultivated in one or more seasons (Kharif, Rabi and Summer) nearly 80% of annual acreage and production comes from Kharif crop (June-October). Groundnut contains remarkable protein content (26%) i.e., more than meat and eggs. As it is an oil seed crop, contains 40-49 % oil content. Groundnut is a good source of mineral ions like Phosphorus, Iron, Calcium, Boron and Zinc. It also contains Vitamin E and B complex.
