Abstract
Myostatin is a member of the Transforming Growth Factor (TGF)- β superfamily and highly conserved in gene structure among vertebrate species. Myostatin (nick name - Schwarzenegger gene) is a strong negative regulator of skeletal muscle growth. Myostatin is a cytokine and is expressed at high level in skeletal muscles. DNA extraction was carried out from the blood collected from five animals of each breed (Soviet chinchilla, White giant & Desi) of rabbit (Oryctolagus cuniculus) by phenol : chloroform method. Locus specific primers were used to amplify gene fragments of MSTN exon I (499 bp), MSTN exon II (570 bp) and MSTN exon III (523 bp) in the three breeds of rabbit (Oryctolagus cuniculus).
