The survey was conducted in 10 major cabbage growing villages of Chikmagalur district. Cabbage growers have practice of mixing agrochemicals in large. On an average, farmers spray agrochemicals 8 times during the cropping period. Farmers who have higher education and self-satisfied families are willing to adapt the recommended practices. Cabbage growers have been using 16 insecticides, 7 fungicides and 3 plant growth regulators (PGR). Seven insecticides, one plant growth regulator and one fungicide were selected after statistical analysis to test the compatibility and efficacy of these selected agrochemicals against diamondback moth (DBM), Plutella xylostella L. in laboratory. The median lethal concentration (LC50) and median lethal time (LT50) of seven insecticides increased with gradual decrease in concentration. The lowest LC50 (7.21 ppm) and LT50 (27.58 h) was observed in chlorantraniliprole treatment. The cumulative larval mortality was highest (100 %) in chlorantraniliprole after 42 hours at 23.125 ppm. Among seven insecticides in combination with fungicide Saaf® tested for efficacy, five insecticides (chlorantraniliprole, flubendiamide, novaluron, Proton® and profenophos) showed synergistic effect, whereas two insecticides (indoxcarb and Hamla®) were antagonistic against P. xylostella larvae. All seven insecticides in combination with PGR (Energy®) showed synergistic effect against P. xylostella larvae. The combination of flubendiamide and Energy® was comparatively more toxic (7.09 relative toxicity) than other combinations.en_US
