A field experiment was conducted at College of Horticulture, Bengaluru on standardization of spacing and season for enhancement of seed yield and qualities in rose onion variety Arka Bindu. Investigation was carried out for two seasons (Kharif and Rabi) with four spacings (40cm x 30cm, 30cm x 20cm, 30cm x 15cm, 30cm x 10cm) were adopted in the experiment during July 2014 to April 2015. The vegetative, seed yield and quality parameters were assessed for commercial onion seed production with good quality. The maximum number of scapes (5.29), length (72.67mm), thickness of flower stalk (7.60cm), umbel length (5.97cm) and width (5.52 cm) were obtained from Rabi season with spacing of 40 cm x 30cm compared to other spacings. The seed quality parameters viz., seed germination (95.41%), seedling vigour index (1223.80%) and seed moisture (10.53%) recorded significantly highest in Rabi season with spacing of 40cm x 30 cm as compared to kharif season with 40cm x 30 cm. The results revealed that the highest seed yield of 917.60 kg per hectare was obtained with the spacing of 30cm x 15cm in Rabi season. Similarly, with respect to cost economics Rabi season with 30cm x 15cm spacing found better in obtaining highest net returns of Rs. 3,18,248/- with benefit cost ratio of 2.20 followed by 30 cm x 20 cm (2.09) as compared to Kharif season with 40 cm x 30 cm spacing recorded lowest B:C ratio of 1.01. Therefore, it could be inferred that Rabi season with optimum spacing of 30cm x 15cm found better for commercial seed production of rose onion variety Arka Bindu in order to realize higher net returns in eastern dry zone of Karnataka.en_US
