An investigation on screening of ridge gourd [Luffa acutangula (L.) Roxb.] genotypes against leaf miner, Liriomyza trifolii (Burgess) and fruit fly, Bactrocera cucurbitae (Coquillett) was undertaken during the year 2012-2013 at the Department of Horticulture Entomology K.R.C.C.H., Arabhavi, Karnataka. The level of leaf miner and fruit fly infestations was varied significantly between the genotypes and age of the crop. Significantly low level of leaf infestation was recorded in Arka Sumeet and Mudigere local genotypes. The highest per cent fruit infestation was recorded in the genotype Vijayawad local, while significantly lowest was recorded in the genotypes, KRCCH-1 and Amoha compared to other genotypes. The per cent infestation of fruits also varied across the age of the fruits, the lowest per cent infestation of fruits was recorded at initial growth and highest at later stage of the crop. Further the eighteen ridge gourd genotypes were grouped into highly susceptible, susceptible, moderately resistant, resistant and highly resistant genotypes. KRCCH-1 and Amoha were found to be highly resistant and resistant respectively. Twelve genotypes out of 18 genotypes screened were found in third category i.e. moderately resistant to fruit fly attack. Three genotypes such as JL-5, Sureka, Pusa Nasdar were grouped in susceptible category and one genotype Vijayawad local was subjected to susceptible category. Further, the genotypes were classified based on both leaf miner and fruit fly infestation. About, six genotypes (33.33 % of genotypes) viz., Mudigere local, Arka Sumeet, KRCCH-1, Chintamani local, Naga and RGM-11 were resistant to both leaf miner and fruit fly incidence. Whereas, other six genotypes (33.33 % of genotypes) viz., JL-5, Gadag local, Kadahatti local, Parabhani Padmini, Vijayawad local and Torilong Krishna were susceptible to both leaf miner and fruit fly infestation. The genotypes having more thickness, trichomes on leaf, fruit toughness and pericarp thickness were found to be important biophysical traits assuring reduced leaf miner and fruit fly infestation. These traits proved important criteria for breeding leaf miner and fruit fly resistant genotypes in future.en_US
