Abstract
The main object of the present investigation was to study the economics of cotton (Desi) cultivation in Kaira district (Gujarat). Out of 10 talukas in the district, 2 talukas, viz., Thasra and Balasinor were considered under study which accounted for 41 per cent of the total cotton area in the district. A stratified two stage random Sampling Design with villages as the primary and operational holdings as the ultimate units of the study was used for selecting the sample for this study. The study covered 10 villages and 90 cotton growers - 43 small (below 1.75 hectares), 23 medium (1.75 to 3.5 hectares) and 24 large (3.5 hectares and above) farms.
