Four females were crossed with ten diverse pollinators in a line x tester mating design. The resulting forty hybrids alongwith fourteen parents and two standard hybrid checks were grown In randomised block design with three replication at Vegetable Research Station, G.A.U., Anand Campus, Anand during the year 1996-97 and were evaluated for fourteen characters. The objective of the study was to investigate the mean performance of parents and hybrids, magnitude of heterosis, components of genetic variances, general combining ability effects of the parents and specific combining ability effects of the cross combinations. The analysis of variance, in general, revealed significant differences among the genotypes (Parents and F1) for yield, its components and the quality traits. The differences were significant for all the characters during both the environments with some exceptions.en_US
