dc.description.abstractThe research project “A study of corporate governance practices in selected Banks” was undertaken to understand the corporate governance practices in selected public, private and foreign banks. To achieve the objectives of the study, annual reports of all the banks under study were taken from their respective websites. The data was analyzed and compared on the basis of certain parameters of corporate governance like board of directors, remuneration of directors, audit committee of the board, secretarial audit, shareholder/investor grievance handling machinery, and whistle blowing policy. It was found that the foreign sector banks were most efficient in adopting corporate governance practices. Also, private sector banks were more into adopting corporate governance practices than public sector banks. It was found that the number of board of directors is more in foreign Banks as compared to public and private sector Banks. But the numbers of meetings of the board held were more of public and private sector Banks than foreign sector Banks. Foreign sector Banks paid higher remuneration to the independent directors for attending the board meetings than public and private sector Banks. Also, private sector Banks paid higher remuneration to the independent directors than public sector Banksen_US
