dc.description.abstractTobacco stem borer, Scrobipalpa heliopa Low. Is an important pest of rustica, bidi and virginia tobacco grown in India. The studies on the life history of stem borer indicated that a single female moth lays on an average 78 eggs. The eggs hatch in about 5-10 days with an average of 7.21 days. The temperature of 30°C was the best for the lowest incubation period and highest percent age of hatching. The relative humidity between 60 to 70 per cent at a constant temperature of 25°, 27° and 30°C was most congenial. The average duration of the first, second, third, fourth and fifth instar was 4.23, 4.72, 5.18, 4.31 and 4.94 days respectively. The total larval duration varied from 18 to 30 days with an average of 23.33 days.en_US
