Abstract
The investigation entitled ‘Development of decorative articles using card weaving technique’ was carried out in Ludhiana city. An interview schedule was prepared for the purpose of collecting data from 100 female respondents between the age group of 20 to 30 years selected randomly from four localities of Ludhiana city. The results of the study revealed that majority of the respondents were graduates, belonging to nuclear families and had income ranged between 25,000-40,000. None of the respondents possessed card woven articles as they were not aware of this technique. Among the decorative articles respondents preferred belt, shoulder bag, specs case, wrist band, wind chime, necklace, cushion cover, trimming for necklines, trimming for hems and lamp shade the most. Striped and spiral designs were the most preferred designs with orange, blue, pink and yellow as most preferred colours. Three-coloured combination was the most preferred followed by two colour combination. Simple yarns of cotton and acrylic were the most preferred followed by rayon cords. In the case of embellishments, beads, crystals, laces and kundans were preferred the most. Article A8, trimming for the necklines made of cotton yarn with striped design was the most preferred article on the basis of suitability of yarn, colour combination and overall impact. Article A3, a specs case made with acrylic yarn and striped design was preferred by majority of the respondents on the basis of design and utility of the article. Majority of the respondents found the idea of making decorative articles with card weaving technique as innovative, colourful and unique. The quoted price of the prepared articles was found to be adequate and 21.21 to 66.78 percent profit can be earned by making decorative articles using card weaving technique
