dc.description.abstractThe study dealt with the genetic aspects of Egg weight increase, Body weight increase,Egg weight/Body weight and the Direct and Indirect measures of Performance efficiency and their association with certain important economic traits of growth, production and feed efficiency in M strain of White Leghorn maintained at the Central Poultry research Station, Gujarat Agricultural University,Anand- A total of 255 birds belonging to 23 sire families from the S0 generation and 347 birds belonging to 20 sire families from the S1 generation were considered for the present study. The mean egg weight increase obtain in the S0 nd S1 generation was 9.521 ± 0.201 g and 9.589±0.158 g respectively; the difference was however non was significant.Body weight increase in the S1 was 229.043+6.101 g and was significantly higher than the S0 generation which had a mean of 143.902+5,63 g. Mean Egg weight/Body weight for the S0 and S1 gen. were 3.810+0.029% and 3.707+0.021% respectively and the difference was statistically significant. The Indirect measure of Performance efficiency was significantly higher in S1 generation as compared to the S0 and the means - obtained were to the tune of 332.11+2.449% and 312.191±2.787% respectively. Direct measure of Performance efficiency also showed a significant increase in the S1 generation; the means being 28.582+0.238% and 33.991+0.246% in the S0 and S1 respectively. Body weight at 20 and 40 weeks of age, egg production upto 40 weeks of age and egg mass upto 40 weeks of age was significantly higher, whereas body weight at 24 weeks, age at sexual maturity and feed consumption/bird/day were significantly lower in the S1 was compared to the S0 generation. No significant difference was observed with regard to initial egg weight and egg weight at 40 weeks of age between the two generations.en_US
