Abstract
The field experiment on weed management in tuberose (Polianthes tuberosa L.) Cv. Single was conducted at new orchard of MARS, Raichur during rabi / summer 2009-10. The experiment was laid out in RBD having nine treatments and three replications. The treatments consists of T1 : Atrazine 3 Kg/ha + Paraquat 3 lit/ha, T2 : Butachlor 2lit/ha + Paraquat 3 lit/ha, T3 : Pendimethalin 1.25 lit/ha + Paraquat 3 lit/ha, T4 : Atrazine 3 Kg/ha + Oxyflourfen 2.12 lit/ha, T5 : Butachlor 2 lit/ha + Oxyflourfen 2.12 lit/ha, T6 : Pendimethalin 1.25 lit/ha + Oxyflourfen 2.12 lit/ha, T7 : Hand weeding (thrice), T8 : Weed free check (Absolute weed free), T9 : Unweeded. Among the weedicide treatments, the T4 recorded minimum dry weight of weeds (1.69 g/0.25 m2), monocot weed count (14.56/0.25 m2) and dicot weed count (2.02/0.25 m2) at harvest. The lesser weed index (6.18) and higher weed control efficiency (89.53) were also noticed in T4. Growth parameters like plant height, number of leaves, number of tillers and LAI were increased in T4. The flowering parameters like flower initation and 50 per cent flowering were earlier in T4 (124.47 & 152.80, respectively) than other treatments. The T4 also possessed more spike length (95.13 cm), length of rachis (23.53 cm), number of flowers per spike (34.27), flower diameter (4.52 cm), weight of single flower (1.32 g), number of spikes per plant (2.15), spike yield per plot (152.23), spike yield ha-1 (1.41 lakhs), flower yield per plot (8.62 kg), flower yield ha-1 (8.00 t), shelf life of flowers (2.97 days) and net returns ha-1 (Rs. 1,76, 968). The treatments T8 (weed free check) and T7 (hand weeding) recorded better growth and yield parameters as compared to T4 and rest of the treatments.
