A field experiment entitled “Effect of fertigation and mulching on growth, yield, quality and fertilizer use efficiency in hybrid chilli (Capsicum annuum L.)” was conducted at the Division of Vegetable Crops, ICAR-Indian Institute of Horticultural Research, Hesaraghatta, Bengaluru, during kharif 2015. The experiment was laid out in Randomized Complete Block Design with 3 replications and 9 treatments combinations involving fertigation and polyethylene mulching. The treatment T1 (Water soluble fertilizers fertigation 100 per cent RDF with mulching) recorded maximum plant height (104.27 cm), number of branches(16.71), leaf area and leaf area index (89.44 dm2 per plant and 4.53), dry matter production (185.49 gram per plant), fruit length (11.3 cm), fruit girth (4.75 cm), fruit weight(1.29) number of fruits per plant (184.11), fruit yield per hectare (5.03 t ha-1), quality attributes like total Caroteniodes content (246.27 mg per gram), pungency level (46441.67 SHU) and maximum fertilizer use efficiency (13.10 kg kg-NPK-1) followed by normal fertilizers fertigation 100 per cent RDF with mulching. From this investigation we could conclude that, water soluble fertilizers as well as normal fertilizers fertigation 100 per cent RDF with mulch is ideal for the maximum growth, yield, quality and fertilizer use efficiency of the crop. But if economics is considered, normal fertilizers fertigation with mulching recorded highest cost benefit ratio (2.30) compared to other treatments.en_US
