dc.description.abstractFood processing sector is one of the key sector of the Indian economy. India is the second largest producer of food products, next to China. The growth of food processing sector will bring overall development in the economy, as it establishes a strong relation between the two pillars of economy; agriculture and industry. India is having a strong agriculture base but post-harvest losses and wastages are quite high. India currently processes less than 10% of its agriculture output i.e. around 2% of fruits and vegetables, 6% of poultry, 21% of meat, 23% of marine and 35% of milk; which is very low compared to other developed countries. The most of the processing done in India can be identified in primary processing. The primary processing compared to secondary processing offers low value-addition that includes processing of high value items like fruits and vegetables, dairy, bakery, chocolates etc. When India is making a move in its policy to ‘Make in India’ numerous gates of growth and development have opens up for the food processing industry.en_US
