The present investigation entitled “Performance of improved cultivars of summer sesame (Sesamum indicum L.) to topping management” was conducted at Post Graduate Institute Instructional Farm, Mahatma Phule Krishi Vidyapeeth, Rahuri, Dist. Ahmednagar (Maharashtra) during summer, 2018. The objectives of the experiment were to evaluate the production potential of improved sesame cultivars and find out the effect of topping management on growth, yield and economics of the sesame cultivars. The experiment consists of eight treatment combinations with four cultivars i.e. AKT 101, JLT 408, PT 1 and JLT 7and two topping management practice i.e., non topping and topping at 30 DAS were tried in randomized block design (RBD) with factorial concept. All the eight treatment combinations were replicated thrice. Periodically observations on the growth characters were recorded, while observations of the seed yield, straw yield and other yield contributing characters were recorded at harvest. The available nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium content in soil were determined before sowing and after harvest of crop. The relationship between yield, different varieties and topping management were determined. Based on inputs and outputs economics of different treatment were work out. The initial, final plant population and its percentage did not influenced due to sesamum cultivars. Different cultivars of sesamum showed a significant influence on growth parameters viz., plant height, leaf area and dry matter accumulation plant-1 were significantly higher with cv. PT than rest of sesamum cultivars. The number of functional leaves and number of branches plant-1 was significantly higher with cv. JLT 7 at 30, 60, 90 DAS and at harvest.en_US
