An investigation was conducted to study the effect of spacing and nutrition on growth and yield of annual chrysanthemum (Chrysanthemum coronarium L.) during the year 2012-13 at the Department of Floriculture and Landscape Architecture, Arabhavi, under the University of Horticultural Sciences, Bagalkot. All the growth, yield and quality parameters were influenced by spacing, nitrogen and phosphorus. The time taken for first and 50 per cent flowering increased with decreasing the levels of spacing and increasing levels of nitrogen and phosphorus. The flower yield was maximum in treatment combination of 30 x 30 cm spacing, 125 kg and 150 kg nitrogen and phosphorus per ha. Spacing, nitrogen and phosphorus enhanced the flower quality with respect to flower diameter, flower weight and shelf life of the flower. The net returns and cost benefit ratio were the highest (Rs. 172980.04/ha and 4.40, respectively) at 30 x 30 cm spacing, 125 and 150 kg nitrogen and phosphorus per ha followed by 30 x 30 cm spacing, 125 kg nitrogen and 125 kg phosphorus per ha (Rs. 143872.69/ha and 3.74, respectively) in flower production. From the present study, it can be finally concluded that the treatment combination comprising of 30 x 30 cm spacing, 125 and 150 kg nitrogen and phosphorus per ha would be best to achieve maximum flower and seed yield per ha. Whereas, interaction of 30 x 60 cm spacing, nitrogen and phosphorus at 125 and 150 kg per ha and a common dose of FYM (20 t/ha) could be the best to get better vegetative growth, higher yield of superior quality flowers and seeds in annual chrysanthemum.en_US
