The investigation on “Evaluation of superior recombinant inbred lines for yield and bacterial wilt resistance in tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.) was conducted at RHREC, Kumbapur, Dharwad, UHS, Bagalkote during rabi 2019. Sixteen superior recombinant inbred lines and two commercial varieties Anagha and Arka Vikas were evaluated in randomized block design with three replications for growth, yield and quality parameters under field condition. Completely randomized design with two replications was followed for screening for bacterial wilt resistance under sick pot condition. Higher GCV and PCV was observed for average fruit weight (g), number of locules per fruit, pericarp thickness (mm), number of fruits per cluster, fruit yield per hectare (t), fruit yield per plant (kg), number of branches per plant at 60 DAT and number of fruits per plant. This indicates the presence of sufficient variability in the superior RILs studied for the above traits and offers good scope for crop improvement by simple selection strategies. High broad sense of heritability was observed for all the traits studied. The high estimates of heritability coupled with high values of genetic advance over mean (GAM) was observed for all characters under study except days for first flowering, days for 50 per cent flowering, pH and TSS. This indicates predominance of additive component for these traits and hence direct selection would be more effective in improving these traits. Correlation and path analysis revealed that fruit yield per plant had highly significant and positive association with characters viz., average fruit weight, pericarp thickness, equatorial fruit diameter, polar fruit diameter and number of locules per fruit. Among these characters average fruit weight had high direct positive effect on fruit yield per plant followed by equatorial fruit diameter. Hence direct selection for these traits would be more useful in the improvement of yield per plant. Screening for bacterial wilt resistance revealed that COHBT-1, COHBT-4, COHBT-18, COHBT-55, COHBT-59, COHBT-60, COHBT-69 and Anagha were found to be resistant to bacterial wilt. Top five genotypes viz., COHBT-1, COHBT-69, COHBT-59, COHBT-60 and COHBT-4 were identified as best superior RILs with respect to yield per plant and resistant to bacterial wilt. Therefore, these lines need to be further assessed for their stability.
