The present study entitled “Use of Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera L. Dunal) as a growth promoter in the supplementary feed of common carp (Cyprinus carpio L.) under temperate conditions of Kashmir” was carried out at Shuhama Campus of Faculty of Fisheries, SKUAST-K. The experiment was conducted to evaluate and assess the growth response of the experimental fish [Cyprinus carpoi L. var. Communis (Scale carp)], fed with varied levels of selected herb supplemented diets. The selected herb, Ashwagandha was mixed with conventional diets of the fish (ground nut oil cake and rice bran in 1:1) at three different levels viz. 1.6 (T1), 2.0 (T2) and 2.4 (T3) g/kg while the control diet (T4) was kept without herb supplementation. As such four treatments having three replicates each with stocking of ten fingerlings of Cyprinus carpio L. (scale carp) were reared in plastic tubs for a period of 90 days and fed with experimental diets @ 5% of body weight per day. The fingerlings fed with herb supplemented diets (T1, T2 and T3) exhibited relatively better growth in terms of body weight gain, per cent weight gain, specific growth rate (SGR), feed conversion ratio (FCR) and gross conversion efficiency (GCE) as compared to the control (T4). The highest weight gain of 13.14 g was recorded in T2 followed by T3 (11.93 g) and T1 (9.60 g) while the control (T4) achieved the lowest weight gain of 7.07 g. The second treatment (T2) proved to be the best, after achieving the highest weight gain, growth in per cent body weight, low FCR, high SGR and maximum GCEen_US
