dc.description.abstractInvestigation on “Studies on the effect of time and level of pruning on growth, flowering and yield of guava (Psidium guajava L.)” was carried out at the experimental orchard of the Department of Horticulture, CCS Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar, during the year 2008-09. Experiment was laid out with split pot design allocating three pruning times i.e. third week of April, first week of May and third week of May and four pruning level i.e. 0, 10, 20, and 30 cm tip removal comprising 12 treatment combination altogether. Treatment was replicated three times with single plant per replication. During the course of studies, it was found that number of leaves per shoot and leaf area increased significantly in severe pruning and in pruning during first week of May in rainy and winter season. Fruit size and fruit weight increased but TSS and acid content of fruit declined markedly with increase in level of pruning and delay in pruning time in both seasons. Pruning during first week of May in 20 cm pruning level proved to be significantly superior to other pruning treatments for number of fruits per shoot and yield per plant in winter season. Leaf tissue analysis indicated the increase in nitrogen and phosphorous content with increase in level of pruning and delayed pruning time. Similarly, foliar potassium was found increasing with severity of pruning but decreasing with delay in pruning time in both rainy and winter season.en_US
