Abstract
Agriculture plays an important role in shaping our Indian economy.
Indian agriculture is started giving prominence for horticultural crops from fourth five
year plan onwards. Among horticultural crops, fruit crops are now grown for
commercial and nutritional purposes all over the country. Banana is the major fruit
crop grown in almost all parts of the country. The world market call for high-quality,
blemish free fruit, together with increasingly strict governmental restrictions on
pesticide use, has soared the relevance of banana integrated pest management
research. IPM is a system approach to pest control which combines biological,
cultural and other novel approaches with the judicious use of pesticides.
