An experiment comprised of forty-five diverse accessions of G. hirsutum and G. barbadense cotton was conducted in randomized complete block design with three replications during Kharif - 2020 at Regional Research Station, Anand Agricultural University, Anand to study the genetic variability, heritability, genetic advance, correlation coefficient analysis, path coefficient analysis, genetic diversity and selection indices. Each genotype was grown in a single row of 6.30 m length with a spacing of 120 × 45 cm, inter row and intra row, respectively. Observations were recorded on five randomly selected plants for seven qualitative characters viz., stem hairiness, leaf shape, flower petal color, boll surface, boll shape, flower petal spot and position of flower stigma and fifteen quantitative characters viz., days to 50% flowering, days to 50% boll bursting, plant height (cm), monopodia per plant, sympodia per plant, bolls per plant, boll weight (g), seed cotton yield per plant (g), ginning percentage (%), seed index (g), lint index (g), oil content (%), span length (mm), fibre strength (g/tex) and fibre fineness (mv). Whereas, days to 50% flowering and days to 50% boll bursting was recorded on plot basis.en_US
