Abstract
The present investigation was undertaken with a view to study the
market structure, farmers’ buying behaviours, effect of dealers’ margin on
sales and problems faced by the farmers and dealers in marketing of cotton
seed in middle Gujarat.
A multi-stage sampling design was applied for the study and 120
cotton growers (26 marginal, 19 small, 30 medium and 45 large) spread over
12 villages of six talukas, covering three districts of middle Gujarat were
selected for agriculture year 2011-12. Also, 30 dealers from the three
selected districts were chosen on cross sectional basis. The major methods
employed for the analysis were Lorenz coefficient of inequality technique,
Bain’s classification for market structure, linear multiple regression models
and Garrett ranking technique.
