Abstract
Groundnut (Arachis hypogaea L.) is the premier edible oil seed crop of the world belongs to the family Leguminoceae, it is commonly called as poor man’s almond and is also called as king of oilseeds. Groundnut is native to Brazil, heavily grown in the tropical and subtropical regions of the world. It is the world's fourth most important source of edible oil and third most important source of vegetable protein. The cultivated spices of groundnut are classified in to two major groups: Valencia / Spanish type (Arachis hypogaea sub spp fastigata) Virginia type (Arachis hypogaea sub spp hypogaea) It is a safe, cheap and renewable nitrogen source for crops, which are capable of fixing N2 and therefore profitable for agriculture and eco-friendly for environment (Vance, 2001).
