Abstract
Pyrethroids have become the most frequently used pesticides because of more
stability in light and good insecticidal activity. Cypermethrin is an insecticide of the
synthetic pyrethroid family. Over ninety percent of the cypermethrin, manufactured
worldwide, is used to kill insects mainly on cotton and other agricultural crops. It is
also used on lettuce and pecans to kill cockroaches (and other indoor pests), in
buildings and to kill termites. As this insecticide is in use as a crop protectant, it is
likely to cause indirect exposure of animals and humans through contaminated feed,
soil and water, leading to some biological alterations. Hence present study was
conducted to find out genotoxic potential of cypermethrin.
