dc.description.abstractExperiments on standardization of propagation techniques in guava cv. Sardar was carried out during the July 2012 to April 2013 at the Department of Fruit Science, Kittur Rani Channamma College of Horticulture, Arabhavi, University of Horticultural Sciences, Bagalkot, Karnataka. Studies to know the optimum season for softwood grafting in guava revealed the highest percentage of graft success during December (69.00 %) and July months (65.50 %) with maximum survival percentage was noticed in July month (94.88 %). Growth attributes like, number of sprouts, length of sprout, percent sprouting and number of leaves registered maximum values in graft prepared in the month of December. The studies on effect of propagation environment for softwood grafting in guava differed significantly, maximum graft success and survival percentage was noticed in mist house condition (62.0 and 97.40, respectively) followed by shadehouse (48 and 95 % respectively). While minimum graft success and survival percentage was recorded under poly tunnel (10 and 41.67 %, respectively). Growth parameters like maximum number of sprouts (4.62) highest length of sprout (6.30 cm) and maximum number of leaves (21.60) were registered in grafts placed under mist house conditions. The investigation on effect of season and IBA concentration on success of air layering pointed out minimum days for root initiation (84 days), maximum number of roots (12.10), higher rooting (33.33 %) and survival percentage (100.00 %) in layers prepared in the month August applied with IBA-4000 ppm. Growth of these layers was vigorous as depicted by maximum number of sprouts (6.0, 6.77 and 6.29), number of leaves (8.81, 13.44 and 17.55) and shoot length (44.53, 46.57 and 48.33 cm) at 30, 60 and 90 DAS placed under shadehouse for hardening.en_US
