dc.description.abstractThe investigation was carried out at Department of Vegetable Science, College of Horticulture, GKVK Campus, Bengaluru. Genetic variability along with character association was carried out in the F3 progenies of two selected crosses viz., Green Long × IIHR-3 and Raidurga Green Round × West Coast Green Round. F3 progenies were also screened for bacterial wilt disease resistance in a wilt sick plot. The segregating population of both the crosses showed wide range of variability with high heritability and genetic advance as per cent of mean for most of the characters. The phenotypic correlation coefficients between yield and plant height, number of branches per plant and number of fruits per plant were highly significant in the positive direction indicating that the yield can be increased by selecting based on the above traits in both the crosses. The line number 46, 164 and 170 derived from the cross Green Long × IIHR-3 and line number 30 and 249 derived from the cross Raidurga Green Round × West Coast Green Round were highly resistant to bacterial wilt disease. Ten superior plants i.e., plant number 46/3, 46/6, 164/1, 164/7, 164/10, 164/11, 164/14, 170/9, 170/11 and 170/19 from the cross Green Long × IIHR-3 and seven superior plants i.e., plant number 30/1, 30/2, 30/12, 30/14, 249/2, 249/10 and 249/12 from the cross Raidurga Green Round × West Coast Green Round were selected based on the earliness, high yielding ability and resistance to bacterial wilt disease.en_US
