Abstract
The present investigation entitled “Effect of wax coating, different packaging
materials and storage conditions on extending the shelf life of acid lime (Citrus
aurantifolia Swingle) cv. Kagzi” was carried out at Horticultural Research Farm and
Fruit Processing Centre, Department of Horticulture, B. A. College of Agriculture,
Anand Agricultural University, Anand during the year 2016 and 2017. Acid lime
(Citrus aurantifolia Swingle) is one of the most important citrus fruit as a major
source of vitamin- C and acetic acid. Acid lime is a non-climacteric fruit, with storage
life of six to eight days at ambient condition. Due to its perishability, there is always
glut in market at peak supply period forcing the growers to do distressed selling. The
storage of the fruits is the only remedy to prolong the marketing period, which will
ultimately ensure the availability of the fruits to the consumers and optimum price to
the growers. Extension of shelf life of fruits is possible by checking the rate of
transpiration, respiration and microbial infection by several treatments like waxing,
use of different packaging materials and storage structures. Keeping this view the
experiment was conducted.
