Abstract
Water is an essential input for the crop production. Micro irrigation has high
potential for creating second green revolution in India. Major Micro irrigation
methods are Drip irrigation, Mini sprinkler irrigation, Sprinkler irrigation and
Rain gun irrigation system. The Government has implemented various crop
oriented subsidy schemes from its own fund resources besides various Centre-
State Shared Schemes, Centrally Sponsored Schemes, and Externally Aided
Projects for the upliftment of farming community. This study entitled “Present
Status And Prospects of Micro Irrigation System in Aravalli District Of
Gujarat” was conducted for Netafim India Private Limited with the objectives:
a) to Study the present status of micro irrigation system in Aravalli district, b) to
Study the constraints faced by farmer in adoption of micro irrigation system in
Aravalli district, c) to study Netafim India’s promotional strategies and their
impact on MIS adoption amongst the farmers in Aravalli district, and d) to
examine the prospects of MIS in Aravalli district. Seven villages were selected
as per convenience from each of the six taluka making a sample of 42 villages.
Further, from each of these villages,5 farmers were selected for the study. The
total sample size therefore comprised 210 farmers. Both primary as well as
secondary data, were used to achieve the stipulated objectives of the study.
