A field experiment was conducted on vertisols at Organic Farming Research Institute Farm, UAS, Raichur during rabi 2015 after preparation different composts comprising crop residues and Glyricidia combinations. Which was laid out in Randomized Complete Block Design with fifteen treatments of which twelve treatments were based on recommended nitrogen supply through different composts, recommended FYM (3 t ha-1) + RDF (50:25 N:P2O5 kg ha-1), RDF (50:25 N:P2O5 kg ha-1) and absolute control with three replications. The results of compost experiment revealed that significantly higher nutrient content (2.35, 0.58 and 1.28 % NPK, respectively), per cent reduction in biomass (64.5%), height (88.4%) and microbial biomass viz. Bacteria (17.00 X 107 CFU g-1 of compost), Fungi (18.67 X 104 CFU g-1 of compost) and Actinomycetes (10.00 X 103 CFU g-1 of compost) was recorded with Cotton stalks + Redgram stalks + Glyricidia sp. with initial C:N of 30:1 over other treatments and it was on par with Redgram stalks + Glyricidia sp. with initial C:N of 30:1, Glyricidia sp. with initial C:N of 22:1, Cotton stalks + Glyricidia sp. with initial C:N of 30:1. Significantly higher nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium uptake by rabi sorghum (227.3, 75.7 and 141.7 kg ha-1, respectively), higher grain yield (39.7 q ha-1), stover yield (13.2 t ha-1) and B:C (3.08) was recorded with application of FYM @ 3 t ha-1 + RDF (50:25 N:P2O5 kg ha-1) followed by Cotton stalks + Redgram stalks + Glyricidia sp. with C: N of 30:1 compost @ 50 kg N equivalent (222.0, 74.0 and 132.3 kg ha-1, 36.6 q ha-1, 12.9 t ha-1 and 2.90). The least uptake (127.0, 42.0 and 71.7 kg ha-1) and lowest grain yield (18.4 q ha-1) was recorded with absolute controlen_US
