The present study entitled “Impact of different plant growth regulators and pinching on sylleptic branching of apple nursery plants.” was carried out at Private Fruit plant nursery Magam, Budgam during the year 2015. Investigations were taken to induce feathering in apple nursery plants of cv. ‘Royal Delicious’ grafted during the same growing season (2015) on semi-dwarfing rootstock MM-106. The experiment was laid out in Randomized Complete Block Design with 11 treatments and replicated thrice. The treatments were applied as foliar spray starting from mid-June to Ist week of July with a time interval of 7-10 days. Results of the experiment revealed that the exogenous application of BA+GA3 treatments along with pinching significantly effect plant diameter, number of feathers, number of short and long spurs, length and diameter of feathers and percentage of feathered plants and were found maximum in BA + GA3 @ 450 ppm (three times) + pinching. Plant height was significantly reduced and was found minimum in BA @ 450 ppm (three times) + pinching. Angle of feathers was recorded maximum under BA @ 450 ppm (three times) + pinching. Distance between feathers, internodal length and height of the first feather from ground level was significantly affected under all treatments but was found maximum in control. Furthermore, leaf fall (initial and final) was delayed under all the treatments except pinching (two times), pinching (three times) and control. It is therefore concluded that BA + GA3 @ 450 ppm (three times) + pinching treatments would prove effective in enhancing feathering in apple nursery plants as the use of strong, well-feathered nursery plants greatly contribute to plant architectural engineering, shortens the investment period and acts as precondition for precocious bearing in apple plants and leads to development of a canopy structure which has good cropping as well as marketing potential.en_US
