dc.description.abstractScreening of pigeonpea genotypes against pod fly, Melanagromyza obtusa (Malloch) and its management through newer insecticides" were carried out under field conditions at research farm of T.C.A., Dholi (Muzaffarpur) during Kharif season 2019-2020. Under field condition, the results indicated that 11 genotypes i.e., IP 203, Sarad, Pusa172, Pusa151, Pusa171, Pusa163, Pusa141, Pusa153, KA 16-5, DA 18-1 and Rajendra Arhar1, were identified to moderately resistant against M. obtusa on percentage of damage of pod and grain. The results of percentage of damage of pod in pigeon pea cultivars revealed a significant difference among genotypes ranging from 24.83 to 67.33 per cent. Low damage of pod was reported in genotype IP 203 whereas maximum pod damage was in genotype Bahar closely followed by NDA 1, MAL 45and MA 6.Maximum percentage of damage of grain was reported in Bahar (36.17%) that was on par with NDA 1 (32.92%). The results indicated that between various cultivars of Cajanus cajan evaluated, on an average 50.76% weight loss of grain caused by M. obtuse ranging from 25.0 (IP 203) to 75.3 percent (Bahar). The genotype IP 203 recorded maximum pod and grain yield per plant, i.e., 910 and 853 g respectively. ABBAS AHMAD Title of the research work : “Screening of pigeonpea genotypes against pod fly, Melanagromyza obtusa (Malloch) and its management through newer insecticides” thickness (0.88mm) recorded highest in the genotype IP 203 with 25 per cent pod damage and trichome length recorded highest in genotype Sarad (0.64mm) with 24.86 per cent pod damage were associated negatively with damage of pods caused by pod fly. Length and width of the pod were correlated positively with damage of pod caused by pod fly. Results of biochemical experiments indicated that genotype IP 203 recorded the highest phenol (0.857 mg/g), tannin 91.213 mg/g) and flavonoid content in Sarad (0.269 mg/g) which was at par with IP 203(0.147 mg/g) as compare to other genotypes. All eight novel insecticides were substantially potential over control in lowering the damage caused by pod fly and also recorded increased yields. Minimal pod and grain damage was recorded in chlorantraniliprole 18.5 SC (11.63 % and 8.42 % respectively) followed by flubendamide 480SC (14.66% and 15.37%) The highest yield (1945 kg ha-1) was recorded in chlorantraniliprole 18.5 SC as against 682 kg ha-1 in un treated control with and Cost benefit ratio of 1:41.8.en_US
