Abstract
Cefoperazone, is a new semi-synthetic third generation cephalosporin that possesses broad spectrum activity against a wide range of aerobic and anaerobic grampositive and gram-negative bacteria. Use of Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are frequently prescribed with antibacterials for the treatment of various bacterial infections accompanied by fever and other inflammatory conditions in animals. Meloxicam is an effective anti-inflammatory and analgesic drug used in veterinary practice. The present study was undertaken to determine phamiacokinetic of Cefoperazone following intravenous and intramuscular administration (20 mg kg-1 ) as single drug and to evaluate effect of Meloxicam (0.5 mg kg-1) on pharmacokinetics of Cefoperazone. Cefoperazone concentrations in sheep plasma were assyed by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Additionally, safety of daily intramuscular administration of Cefoperazone (20 mg kg-1 at 24 h interval) for seven days in sheep.
