Laboratory experiments on seed morphological, chemical, biochemical, physiological characterization and storage studies of ten chickpea genotypes were conducted at the Department of Seed Science and Technology, University of Agricultural Sciences, Raichur. Seed morphological characteristics like seed length (15.42 mm and 11.98 mm) and seed width (13.96 mm and 10.59 mm) were recorded significantly highest and lowest in genotypes BGD-103 and BG-372 respectively as observed under seed image analyser. Genotypes were grouped as white (one), light brown (three) and brown (six) based on seed coat colour; smooth (eight) and rough (two) based on seed coat texture; light (three), medium (three) and heavy (four) based on test weight. Among different chemical tests, the genotypes were grouped as light brown (four), medium brown (three) and dark brown (three) for phenol test; light brown (four) and dark brown (six) for modified phenol test; colourless (three) and pale yellow (seven) for KOH test; yellow (one), brown (five) and dark brown (four) for NaOH test whereas all genotypes shown black colour reaction for FeSO4 test. All the genotypes showed varied response to biochemical tests like electrical conductivity, dehydrogenase, alpha amylase enzyme activity, protein content, electrophoretic analysis and physiological parameters viz., germination percentage, moisture content, seedling length, seedling vigour index and seedling dry weight whereas no change was noticed with peroxidase activity test. In seed longevity studies, seed moisture content was increased and seed germination percentage was decreased with advancement in storage period. Among the genotypes A-1 recorded as most susceptible to bruchid infestation and ICCV-2 genotype to disease infection after 120 days of storage which help us to select bruchid resistant genotypes having better longevity.en_US
