Abstract
Objective of the Study 1 To study the socio-economic characteristics of the Contact Farmers. 2 To study the extent role performed by the Contact Farmers. 3 To study the association between some socio-economic characteristics such as caste, age, education, farm size and family type and role performed by the contact Farmers. 4 To ascertain the role-gap of the Contact Farmers in Training and Visit System. 5 To study the motivating factors to becoming a Contact Farmers 6 To study the difficulties experienced by the Contact Farmers while performing their role. 7 To study the opinion of the Contact Farmers regarding 'T & V' System. Methodology The present study was conducted in the Kaira District of Gujarat State. Kaira District is divided into five blocks each contain two talukas. Totally five talukas were selected randomly. Ten villages two from each selected talukas were selected randomly. 150 Contact Farmers, 15 from each selected villages were randomly selected. All the selected Contact Farmers were personally interviewed. The data were collected with the help of interview schedule. The data were transferred into the master tables and frequencies were marked. Whenever necessary the number and percentage as well as simple scores were given to the various frequency items. The data were tabulated,organised, analysed and presented in such a way that it may give proper answer to the specific objectives of the study. Major Findings 1 The Contact Farmers were from middle age group. All the Contact Farmers were literate, dependent on farming. Majority of them had their owned farm. Most of them were from higher caste. 2 Majority of the Contact Farmers had high performance of role in 'T&V' System. The Contact Farmers take interest in performing their various role. 3 In 'T&V' System, the Contact Farmers had no role-gap, mostly performed their role fully. 4 Personal benefit was the main factor which motivated the farmers to become a Contact farmer. 5 High cost of fertilizer, non-availability of input supply, were the major difficulties experienced by the Contact Farmers while performing their role. 6 Majority of the Contact farmers suggested to make provision of supplying inputs along with the communication of messages and to establish efficient marketing system for the farm production. 7 Majority of the Contact farmers had favourable opinion regarding 'T & V' System.
