Abstract
The tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill.) is an important vegetable fruit crop. The fruit rot caused by Alternaria alternata, which adversely affect the fruit quality, quantity and ultimately reduce the market value. Considering the high economic damage and frequent occurrence of fruit rot caused by A. alternata in field, during transit, storage and marketing, the detail study was carried out on Alternaria fruit rot of tomato (A. alternata). Freshly infected tomato fruits (Gujarat Tomato - 2) showing typical Alternaria rot symptoms were collected from Vegetable farm, AAU, Anand. The infected fruits show small black, leathery, sunken spots near the stem end of fruits along with concentric rings and in later stage covering the whole fruit by
