EFFECT OF SEED POLYMER COATING WITH MICRONUTRIENTS ON GROWTH, SEED YIELD AND QUALITY OF LINSEED (Linum usitatissimum L.)

dc.description.abstractThe laboratory experiment was carried out in the Department of Seed Science and Technology, College of Agriculture, UAS, Raichur, to know the effect of different dosage of seed polymer coating on seed quality in linseed. Among the different concentrations polymer @ 2 ml per kg of seed recorded significantly higher germination (98.00 %), speed of germination (24.9), seedling vigour index (2284) and germination rate index (2492) compared to control (93.33 %, 20.6, 1780 and 2057 respectively). The field experiment was conducted at MARS, College of Agriculture, UAS, Raichur, to know the influence of seed polymer coating with micronutrients on growth, seed yield and quality of linseed. The experiment consisted of 23 treatments with various micronutrients either alone or in combination. Among the treatments, seed polymer coating (2 ml/kg) with the combination of micronutrients (ZnSO4 + FeSO4 + Boron + Ammonium molybdate + CaSO4 each at 1 g per kg of seed) recorded significantly higher plant height at vegetative (20.2), flowering (53.7) and capsule formation stage (56.3 cm) respectively. Number of capsules per plant (56/plant), number seeds per capsule (8), and seed yield per hectare (8.14 q) compared to control (15.0, 46.7 and 49.7, 53, 7 and 6.76 q respectively). The resultant seeds of the same treatment also recorded significantly higher germination (99.00 %) and seedling vigour index (2315) compared to control (96.00 % and 1953, respectively). The duration of dormancy was upto 28 days, degree of dormancy was varied from 15 to 33 % and ABA content of 4.931 to 6.142 picomoles per gram of fresh weight of seed was observed in freshly harvested seeds of ten different genotypes.en_US
