EFFECT OF BIOSTIMULANTS AND BIOFERTILIZERS ON GROWTH, FLOWER YIELD AND QUALITY OF GLADIOLUS (Gladiolus grandiflorus L.) CV. AMERICAN BEAUTY UNDER GREENHOUSE CONDITIONS 2523

Abstract
The present experiment entitled “Effect of biostimulants and biofertilizers on growth, flower yield and quality of gladiolus (Gladiolus grandiflorus L.) cv. American Beauty under greenhouse conditions” was carried out at High Tech Horticulture Park, Department of Horticulture, College of Agriculture, Junagadh Agricultural University, Junagadh during 2015-2017. The experiment was laid out in Factorial Completely Randomized Block Design (FCRD) consisting two factors with three repitations. Four treatments of biostimulants and three treatments of biofertilizers were considered as treatment combinations. The results indicated that application of humic acid 0.2% (B4) sprayed three times (30, 45 and 60 DAP) significantly increased the plant height at 30 DAP (61.89 cm), at 60 DAP (86.87 cm) & at 90 DAP (113.01 cm), no. of leaves per plant (7.66), no. of tillers per plant (2.06), fresh weight (131.38 g) & dry weight of plant (38.28 g), minimum days taken for opening of first spike (55.41), flowering span (24.36 days), fresh weight (51.68 g) & dry weight of whole spike (23.41 g), length of spike (55.33 cm), length of rachis (46.33 cm), diameter of floret (8.93 cm), longevity of spike (11.37 days), vase life of spike (12.78 days), no. of florets per spike (15.82), no. of spikes per plant (2.59), no. of spikes per plot (31.12) & per hectare (2.88 lakh), no. of corms per plant (2.01), no. of cormels per plant (31.85), diameter of corm (5.10 cm), weight of corms (49.52 g), nitrogen content in leaf (0.76 %) during the year 2015-16, 2016-17 & pooled, respectively. However, it was found non-significant in nitrogen, phosphorus and potash content in leaves & available in soil, soil pH & EC. In case of biofertilizers, the variation was also found significant and maximum plant height at 30 DAP (61.18 cm), at 60 DAP (86.19 cm) & at 90 DAP (110.89 cm), no. of leaves per plant (7.58), no. of tillers per plant (2.06), fresh weight (127.91 g) & dry weight of plant (36.43 g), minimum days taken for opening of first spike (55.94), flowering span (23.62 days), fresh weight (50.38 g) & dry weight of whole spike (22.72 g), length of spike (54.32 cm), length of rachis (45.32 cm), diameter of floret (8.72 cm), longevity of spike (10.99 days), vase life of spike (12.39 days), no. of florets per spike (15.62), no. of spikes per plant (2.55), no. of spikes per plot (30.58) & per hectare (2.83 lakh), no. of corms per plant (2.05), no. of cormels per plant (29.63), diameter of corms (4.90 cm), weight of corms (47.60 g) & nitrogen content in leaf (0.74 %) were recorded with the application of Azotobacter @ 2.5 ml/plant + PSB @ 2.5 ml/plant + KSB @ 2.5 ml/plant (F3) during both the years and pooled but it was found non-significant for available soil nitrogen, phosphorus and potash content in leaves & available in soil, soil pH & EC. The interaction effect of biostimulants and biofertilizers also significantly influenced the growth, flowering, yield, quality, nutrient content of gladiolus. Significantly maximum no. of tillers per plant (2.40), fresh weight (129.35 g) & dry weight of plant (44.28 g), minimum days taken for opening of first spike (49.06), flowering span (25.66 days), fresh weight (56.21 g) & dry weight of whole spike (25.76 g), length of spike (59.52 cm), length of rachis (50.52 cm), longevity of spike (11.79 days), vase life of spike (13.44 days), no. of florets per spike (16.90), no. of spikes per plant (2.92), no. of spikes per plot (35.04) & per hectare (3.18 lakh), no. of corms per plant (2.21), no. of cormels per plant (35.33), diameter of corm (5.39 cm), weight of corm (53.33 g) & nitrogen content in leaf (0.74 %) were recorded with the application of humic acid 0.2% with Azotobacter @ 2.5 ml/plant + PSB @ 2.5 ml/plant + KSB @ 2.5 ml/plant (B4F3). However, it was found non-significant for plant height, no. of leaves per plant, diameter of floret, phosphorus and potash content in leaves, available soil nitrogen, phosphorus & potash, soil pH & EC. As far as the relative economics of the treatment is concerned, the maximum net realization of Rs. 6,75,649 per hectare with highest 1.76 cost benefit ratio (CBR) was also obtained in similar treatment combination of humic acid 0.2% with Azotobacter @ 2.5 ml/plant + PSB @ 2.5 ml/plant + KSB @ 2.5 ml/plant (B4F3).
