A field experiment was conducted to study the effect of different sources of sulphur on growth, yield and quality of onion (Allium cepa L.) under drip irrigation at College of Horticulture, UHS Campus, GKVK Post, Bengaluru. The experiment was conducted by adopting Randomized Complete Block Design with 8 treatment combinations (control, gypsum, ammonium sulphate, single superphoshate, potassium sulphate, sulphur in powder form, sulphur in granular form and potassium shoenite). The results revealed that growth, yield and yield attributes like plant height, number of leaves, bulb diameter, weight of bulb and also quality parameters like total soluble solids, pyruvic acid and keeping quality of the bulbs were significantly differed with application of different sources of sulphur. Among the different treatments, application of NPK @ 125:75:125 kg ha-1 + sulphur @ 45 kg ha-1 through gypsum under drip irrigated condition recorded the highest total bulb yield (48.41 t ha-1), marketable bulb yield (46.10 t ha-1), quality attributes, enhanced keeping quality, uptake of major nutrients by the plant and also maximum available sulphur after crop harvest, which was superior over other sources of sulphur investigated.Hence, gypsum is the superior source of sulphur to meet the sulphur demand of onion. Thus, the application of sulphur at the rate of 45 kg ha-1 in the form of gypsum along with the recommended dose of fertilizers (NPK @ 125:75:125 kg ha-1) is found to be best as it resulted in higher net returns (Rs. 5,68,111.89 ha-1) and B:C ratio (3.59) of onion under drip irrigation.en_US
