Abstract
The present study was undertaken in Hisar city of Haryana state. Ten showrooms owners were selected
for collecting information regarding existing trends of fashion jewellery available in market. Metal jewellery was
the most available in the showrooms. Purchase practices of adolescent girls visiting those showrooms were
studied. Majority of the adolescent girls preferred to wear matching fashion jewellery with their dress.
Preferences for fashion jewellery made from different materials and types textile materials for fashion
jewellery were also taken from adolescent girls. Buttons and buckles, zippers, fabric, wooden beads, plastics,
stones, bones, leather and threads were the top ten preferred materials. Satin, cotton silk, velvet and brocade were
the most liked textile materials for fashion jewellery. Collection of material was done from shops of Hisar city.
Twenty designs of necklace, earrings, bracelet and ring sets were developed through sketching. These designs
along with samples of materials were shown to adolescent girls.
The sketched designs of fashion jewellery sets, design no.1 was ranked I followed by design no.15. Top
8 designs were selected for production including design no.4, design no.6, design no.8, design no.5, design no 10
and design no 9 in descending order.
Thirty college going girls were selected on the basis of availability for the assessment of developed
products. The developed fashion jewellery sets no. 4 followed by set no. 1 was the most preferred. Majority or the
respondents rated cost as 'appropriate' for the developed jewellery sets no 4. The opinion 'developed designs
produced using different materials and accessories are innovative' was strongly favoured by the respondents.
