Abstract
Termites have been around since the time of the dinosaurs. Second only to ants,
termites are one of the most numerous insects on earth (number-wise), but due to
habitat destruction, and environmental degradation, some species appear to be
declining. They have existed for about 50 million years, and today there are close
to 3,000 termite species living in most temperate parts of the world. Termites are
social insects. They are best known for their wood eating habit. They feed on dead
plants, animals, timbers, and anything that contains cellulose.
