Studies were carried out to screen eight varieties of gerbera for their growth, cut flower yield, quality and pest reaction under naturally ventilated polyhouse condition in the Regional Horticultural Research and Extension Centre, University of Horticultural Sciences Campus, GKVK, Bengaluru during 2014-15. Highest number of suckers (3.20) was found in the var. Esmara. Plant spread, leaf length and plant height were significantly highest in var. Aquamelon. Variety Ambeta had the highest leaf width and leaf area. Days to bud initiation (57.62), first blooming (9.43) and fifty per cent flowering (110.33) were significantly shortest in var. Lexington. Significantly maximum flower diameter (10.94 cm) was recorded with the var. Ambeta. Flower stalk length (63.42 cm) was highest in the var. Lexington. Variety Rubel recorded with highest disc diameter (2.07 cm). Maximum stalk diameter (0.68 cm) was found in the var. Mammut. Variety Aquamelon found to have highest neck diameter (0.41 cm) compared to other varieties evaluated. Number of flowers per plant (6.40), per m2 (58.47) and per ha (4,67,760) was highest in the variety Ambeta. Significantly highest trichome density (25.49/cm2) was noticed in Aquamelon while, stomatal density was significantly highest in Esmara (30.56/18 µm). Var. Ambeta recorded significantly highest leaf moisture content (79.19%). Significantly least leaf mines and thrips were recorded in var. Ambeta while, var. Palmbeach recorded significantly least number of whitefly population. From the studies it is concluded that var. Ambeta found to be a superior among the eight varieties with highest cut flower yield besides least pest population.en_US
