Abstract
The present study was carried out to estimate gene effect, heterosis, inbreeding depression, heritability and expected genetic advance for seed yield and its component characters in castor (Ricinus communis L.). The experiment was conducted at Agronomy farm, B. A. College of Agriculture, Anand Agricultural University, Anand during kharif 2016-17. The experimental material, comprising of six generations (P1, P2, F1, F2, B1 and B2) raised from five crosses viz., cross I (SKI 324 x PCS 124), cross II (ANDCI 10-7 x JH 109), cross III (ANDCI 8 x SKI 324) , cross IV (JI 358 x SH 42) and cross V (ANDCI 10-7 x SKI 324) were grown in a compact family block design with three replications. The observations on thirteen characters were recorded for each cross i.e. from five plants in P1, P2 and F1, ten plants in B1 and B2 and twenty plants in F2 generation.
