dc.description.abstract | Exploitation of milk production potential, essentially, of buffaloes is the need of time owing to the larger population size of country. The production potential of buffalo needs to be exploited by various breeding plans based on quantitative genetic theory supported by molecular genetic technologies. The candidate gene approach provides tools to search for causative polymorphisms affecting quantitative traits. One of the potential candidate genes recently explored that is associated with milk fat percentage is Oxidised Low Density Lipoprotein Receptor 1(OLR1). In cattle, a study has recently focused on single nucleotide polymorphisms in OLR1 gene has concluded that an SNP in 3’ untranslated region is associated with milk fat yield and percentage. Keeping the higher milk fat percentages in buffaloes with extreme milk fat percentages in Mehsana and Banni buffalo, the present study was carried out to identify the SNPs in OLR 1 intron I in Mehsana and Banni buffalo. | en_US |
