Abstract
The Study was conducted in Gulgarga and Bidar Districts of Karnataka state during
2013-14. Gulbarga and Bidar districts were selected for the study as they have highest area
under pulse crops. The selection of villages and farmers were primarily done in consultation
with the extension officers of the state department, KVK / University Scientists ad
Prograssive farmers of Gulbarga and Bidar districts. A Semi-structured schedule was
prepared with the help of experts in the fields of Agricultural Extension, Agronomy soil
science and agril. Chemistry, seed science and technology and Statistics. Participant
observation and personal interview method with the help of the schedule was used for data
collection. During filed investigation, around twenty two ITKs were identified and grouped
them in accordance with seed to seed technology i.e. from land preparation to storage and
others. A total of 22 indigenous technologies pertaining to different aspects of pulse
cultivation practices followed by farmers were identified and documented. Simple and easy
to understand, low cost technology, environmental friendly and specialized skills not required
were the major benefits for the use of indigenous technologies as perceived by majority of the
farmers. It is concluded from the study that, there is potential scope for the research wing of
Agricultural Universities to conduct experiment on verification and standardization of these
practices which can be arrived with scientific rationality.
