Abstract
Present study was conducted to know the farmers’ perceptions and utility of mobile eextension services in agriculture by farmers of Gulbarga district of Karnataka state during 2014-15. Data was collected by personal interview method from 120 respondents using pretested standardized interview schedule. Cent per cent of the KVK respondents received both text and voice SMS with respect to agronomy, soil science, plant protection and horticulture while in case of APMC respondents cent per cent of the respondents received only text messages with respect to redgram, greengram, sorghum, blackgram and sunflower. More than forty per cent (43.33 %) of the respondents had medium annual income. Majority (66.67 %) of the KVK respondents said SMS with respect to controlling pest and disease as most useful while majority (43.33 %) of the APMC respondents perceived SMS as most useful with respect to redgram. Majority (66.66 %) of the farmers perceived pest management as most relevant while APMC respondents perceived price arrivals message with respect to redgram as most relevant. Majority (66.66 %) of the respondents perceived messages with respect to plant protection as main fold. Majority (66.64 %) of the respondents fully adopted pest management practices while 33.33 per cent of APMC respondents fully adopted price arrivals SMS with respect to redgram. Clarification is difficult if any doubt arises was the major constraint experienced. Majority of the APMC respondents suggested for messages in colloquial languages (70.00 %). Majority of the KVK respondents suggested for daily messages (60.00 %) and majority of the APMC respondents suggested for messages in colloquial languages (70.00 %).
