Abstract
The tuberous roots of Shatavar herb are well known for its galactogogue and anabolic activity. It appears in many Ayurvedic preparations as growth promoter and immuno stimulant as it enhances general metabolism. The present growth trial was conducted on fingerlings of common carp (Cyprinus carpio L.) fed @ 5% of their body weight with four levels of Shatavar supplement (2 gm/kg, 4 gm/kg, 6 g/kg and control without Shatavar) in the conventional fish feed (rice bran and ground nut oil cake). Shatavar dose at 4 gm/kg results the higher growth rate with lowest Food Conversion Ratio (FCR). The water quality parameters were not affected by supplementation of Shatavar in the feed.
