Abstract
An investigation on the effect of organic manures on growth, yield and quality
of medicinal coleus (Plectranthus forskohlii Willd.) was conducted at the Department
of Plantation, Spices, Medicinal and Aromatic Crops, Kittur Rani Channamma College
of Horticulture, Arabhavi, during 2013.
At harvest (160 DAP), among the treatments pongamia cake equivalent to 100
per cent RDN recorded highest plant height and number of branches. Highest plant
spread, leaf area duration, crop growth rate, dry matter accumulation in leaf and stem
and total dry matter production, uptake of P in stem and total P uptake was recorded in
T7- RDF (50:50:50 Kg NPK/ha +10 ton FYM/ha). Neem cake equivalent to 100 per
cent RDN gave the highest leaf area and leaf area index.
Plants provided with FYM equivalent to 100 per cent RDN recorded highest
relative growth rate, dry matter accumulation in tubers, harvesting index, number of
tuberous roots, length and diameter of tuberous roots, tuber density, fresh and dry
weight of tuberous roots (6.82 t/ha and 1.28 t/ha), available N in the soil, uptake of N,
and P by leaf and tubers, total N uptake, uptake of K by leaf, stem, tubers and total
uptake.
Highest available P, pH, EC, N uptake in stem was observed with poultry
manure equivalent to 100 per cent RDN. Highest available K and forskolin content
(1.037 %) was recorded in pressmud equivalent to 100 per cent RDN.
Highest number of leaves and OC content was recorded in vermicompost
equivalent to 100 per cent RDN. Highest forskolin yield (12.17 kg/ha), net returns
(Rs.1,34,077.2/ha) and benefit cost ratio (3.68) was obtained in poultry manure
equivalent to 100 per cent RDN.
