Abstract
An investigation on the integrated nutrient management in ashwagandha
(Withania somnifera Dunal) was conducted at department of Plantation, Spices,
Medicinal and Aromatic Crops, Kittur Rani Channamma College of Horticulture,
Arabhavi, during 20122013.
At harvest (150 DAS), among organic manures the treatment O5 (6 t FYM/ha
+ 1.5 t/ha VC) recorded maximum plant height, plant spread, leaf area, leaf area
index, cumulative growth rate, net assimilation rate, relative growth rate, number of
berries per node, number of seeds per berries, seed yield per hectare, fresh and dry
weight of roots per hectare (12.69 and 6.69 q/ha, respectively), root length, root
diameter and alkaloid content (0.25%).
Among inorganic fertilizers the treatment F3 (40:50:40 NPK kg/ha) recorded
maximum plant height, plant spread, leaf area, leaf area index, cumulative growth
rate, net assimilation rate, relative growth rate, number of berries per node, number of
seeds per berries, seed yield per hectare, fresh and dry weight of roots per hectare
(14.13 and 7.45 q/ha, respectively), root length, root diameter and alkaloid content
(0.27%). Among the interactions, the treatment combination of O5F3 recorded highest
plant height, plant spread, leaf area, leaf area index, cumulative growth rate, net
assimilation rate, relative growth rate, number of berries per node, number of seeds
per berries, seed yield per hectare, fresh and dry weight of roots per hectare (14.37
and 7.61 q/ha, respectively), root length, root diameter and alkaloid content (0.30%).
The highest net returns (Rs 1, 98,939.00/ha) and benefit cost ratio of (5.90:1)
was obtained by the combined application of 10 t FYM + 0 t vermicompost and
40:50:40 kg NPK per hectare under the dry zone of Karnataka.
